Ramble Ride

You have more.

Ramble Rides are fully sagged, but that doesn't mean you have a free ride to camp.

Our philosophy is "you'll ride more than you think, but never more than you can."

On one ride, we had a rider who wanted to get in. They were uncomfortable on the climbs and lost contact with others. But I could tell the issue was more mental than physical. "You have more," I told them at every meeting.

"You think so?"

"I do."

And so, all day, we danced this dance: me passing them, them cursing me for not letting them in, me saying, "you have more. Just to the top." And when they got to the top, they always mustered to continue.

For three days.

At the end, after hugs and high-fives, came the "I didn't think I could do it."

On the Ramble, we always know that you can.

Why is our Fall ride one of our favorites?

Because Populus tremuloides.

Did you know that the Aspen tree (Populus tremuloides) is among the largest organisms in the world, according to mass? It's true. All these trees here are interconnected and one living thing. And the Pando grove in Utah is the largest of all.

But don't worry, you'll still be more than impressed by our Colorado friends. In addition to Fall colors, the ride is a little more relaxed since we stay at one camp, and campfires with the cool nights are just a bit more communal. The days are warm for riding and clear, so the views have just the right amount of clarity.

It's also a favorite because staff can usually sneak out for a ride with guests too.

There's still time and space to join what could be the icing on your summer cake.

Not every Ramble gets a shot to go up to the Fire Tower. It often has a snow cover for early and late season rides as it's the highest point on our rides at just under 11K feet. But if you get a chance, you should go.

For the views alone.

This view looks East. You can see many roads we ride on and North Park off in the distance, lying at the foot of the Front Range.

The trip adds roughly ten extra miles to the day, and we always make it optional; it's a long day even without. But if you're feeling spunky or can recover at lunch at the turnoff, it's a chance to get a view of the Medicine Bow, Zirkel Wilderness, and surrounding area that few folks get.

What sets a Ramble Ride apart from other rides is our locations. We work hard to find the roads less traveled and opportunities to experience a bit of solitude.

With challenging routes and incredible scenery, there's much to experience on every Ramble Ride.

Take the time to join us on our last Ramble this Fall. There's still room available, and it's an experience you won't soon forget.

What a fantastic July Ramble. Great group and weather; though Wyoming did show up one night for a light show 🌩.

We had a special guest on the ride, giving him a first-hand experience of what a Ramble is.

Want to know a 2023 location? If you know who this is, you’ll figure it out.

Headed home.

The last bit of the ride always goes a little slow as riders soak up the remaining views and each other's company.

We get it.

I first heard the phrase “don’t chick it up” from @knuffer. It's the event equivalent of an industry used to pinking and shrinking products.

So our women’s rides are challenging with long miles and lots of climbing at altitude. We’ve never shied away from hard routes on our rides to make it easier.

And so, while there is a huge benefit to more beginner-friendly events, we’ve always catered more to riders like Kimberly, who can outride others regardless of who they are. For riders like Sara, getting ready for her first 150-mile race. For Aimee, eyeing her next big bikepacking trip, and all the rest who choose the women's ride for the camaraderie and fraternity of other women while still pushing their limits.

This isn't the first Ramble where we come back to the world to learn of challenging news. Rambles are, for a time, a warm bubble where only the riding and kinship matter. And after spending five days with these ladies, riders and staff alike, where they shared ideas, talked about books, and experiences while taking care of each other and building each other up, I conclude that the world would be a better place with women in charge.

Back to civilization, there’s always time to capture one last image.

A super fun and close group for this year's Women's ride. Typical for a June ride, we had a little of everything weather-wise. But always smiles and good times.

June is a magical time on the Rambles. When the weather cooperates, that is. We've had rain, wind, and 4" of snow. But this year? It looks perfect.

I rode some select bits of next week's Women's Ramble Ride yesterday, and it's #supergreen. Lots of baby antelope and five-foot-tall moose calves on wobbly legs.

The roads are still hard-packed from winter, and the dandelion line the way.

It's going to be a great trip. There's still time to join us!

June always bring questions as riders start thinking about Rambles.

We have folks of all fitness levels and experience so often, answers are a teaching opportunity. Today we answer why you should wear padded shorts or bibs. Linked in bio.

We're excited to have been chosen to be included in this month's @5280magazine issue with a feature on the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests. @tesswstrokes wrote a great piece on her first Ramble Ride.

We spend a lot of time here, with our events, but also riding all there is so we can keep evolving and adding to the adventure. It's a lot of love, effort, and miles to come up with what we think are some of the best and most challenging routes out there for any event.

Give it a read, then come out and experience it for yourself.

The story is linked in our bio.

The Women’s Ramble 2022 is just over a month away June 22-25 and hopefully the Ambassador posts over the past couple of weeks have inspired you to join us! What makes this Ramble better than the rest is that its all about the LADIES!!! Sure hanging with the guys for a weekend ride can be fun, but imagine the joy of riding casually (or not so casually!) through the beautiful Colorado gravel roads with new friends then sitting around the fire at night sharing a beer and telling stories of the days ride with a group of inspiring women who all share a passion for getting out there to camp and ride.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for new riding buddies and I’ve been so inspired learning about the other Ambassadors that I can’t wait to meet them and the rest of the Ramblers this year. There’s nothing better than completely unplugging for 4 days and just thinking about eating, sleeping and riding your bike.

So grab a friend or join us solo, we’d love to hit the trails with you!

Registration link in the bio!

@michelleh_CO here again to share with you my history of 3 very different Rambles! 2019 was my first Ramble and we had a HUGE group of over 80 rides which was so fun to always have someone new to ride with or chat to around camp. I met some many amazing people coming from such different cycling backgrounds proving that the Ramble is for anyone and everyone as long as you love riding your bike!

Ramble number 2 was in July 2020 and provided a much needed break from the lockdown of COVID. We were a smaller but mighty group starting in various cohorts to keep us all safe. Peter and his team did an amazing job sticking to key protocols but enabling us to mingle and still feel the joy of a Ramble.

And finally last year I joined the longer Ramble with 5 fantastic days of riding with a smaller group through some tough, cold, rainy conditions.
So what does this year’s Women’s Ramble have in store? You’ll have to join us to find out but I can guaranteed you there will be amazing foot, beautiful campsites, lots of laughter around the campfire and of course fantastic miles on your bike! I hope you will join us!

Hi Ramblers! @knuffer was just kidding about being the last Women's Ramble Ride Ambassador doing an IG takeover… I’m @michelleh_CO and now officially the last IG takeover. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed all of the inspiration stories and information about the Rambles! If you’re not yet convinced to join us hopefully I can give you the last little nudge.
About me… I’m a mom to 2 furry four legged labs and my partner and I spend as much time as we can travelling to amazing places to ride our bikes. My passion for cycling started as a long distance triathlete, much preferring to ride over swimming and running. After 10 years of racing Ironmans, I began dabbling in gravel in 2018 and now spend as much time as I can riding dirt on gravel, mountain and everything in between. Over the past few years I’ve raced Unbound 200, Rebecca’s Private Idaho Stage Race, SBT Gravel Black, Oregon Trail and Leadville 100 stage race. This year I’m diving headfirst into bikepacking with plans to ride the Great Divide in July and August. The Ramble will be my last chance to test all of my camping gear before hitting the trail.
I’ve ridden 3 Rambles and loved every minute of them, even the cold, wet days and nights last August. Stay tuned over the next few days as I share my thoughts on the Ramble!

Last post here from @knuffer. Here’s a shot in Utah from a four day bikepacking trip I did with a friend in 2020. Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself. Come create some memories and friendships on the Women’s Ramble in June. I promise you won’t regret it.
