The Ortlieb gear is bombproof, waterproof, and a good handlebar bag is a main part of a bikepacking setup. These come in two sizes and what you choose will depend like with other items, what you plan to do with it. First, many folks put either their tent (with poles strapped on front) or sleeping bag in this bag. When doing this, leave the stuff sacks at home and use the waterproof roll instead. With this size, I can easily stuff my regular sleeping bag, some clothes and a soft jacket with room to spare. This size has the most usability when you are aware if it’s limitations of fitting whatever bike you’re planning on using. The good news is that the roll bag can be rolled to fit most bikes and if you’re using a flat bar bike, this is the one to get. Download the tech sheet to make sure it will fit.
If you’re running drop bars, this size may interfere with your handlebars and the amount you’ll need to collapse the roll to will be dependent on what width bar you’re using. Make sure to leave plenty of room for unimpeded access to your brake and shifters. One drawback on handlebar bags on gravel or other drop bar bikes is the large bags either don’t fit, or take up most or all of the space between the brake levers. While most gravel bikes run wider or flared bars, make sure it’ll fit and that you’re OK with having some areas you might rub on with your hands while reaching for the brakes or shifting. Not an issue on flat bar bikes.
NOTE: pricing is size dependent. Minus $10 for size small. Get that here.
